What is Family Dinners by Majella Home Cooking?
Family Dinners by Majella Home Cooking is a weeknight dinner delivery service for busy families in Port Washington and Manhasset. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I will prepare fresh, wholesome, home-cooked dinners delivered to your doorstep. Whether you work outside or inside the home, I’m guessing that the hours between 3 PM and 9 PM are a whirlwind. Homework, after-school activities and bedtime routines leave little or no time to prepare a home-cooked meal for your family. Family Dinners is a seamless way to get a delicious and wholesome meal on your table on even the busiest weeknight!
What kind of food do you cook?
Most (but not all) of my cooking is Italian or Italian-inspired, not necessarily the more widely-known Italian-American fare, but rather, the dishes that you’d find on my family and friends’ kitchen tables in Italy. I cook with fresh vegetables, meats and fish; artisanal cheeses; and imported Italian olive oil, legumes and grains.
Why choose Family Dinners by Majella Home Cooking over takeout or your market’s prepared foods counter?
Family Dinners is a fresher, healthier and more interesting alternative to take-out and prepared foods. Although the dinners may cost a bit more, each and every ingredient is hand-selected by me and cooked with the same care and attention that I give to my own family’s dinners.
What about the young discerning (i.e., picky) eaters in my house?
Ideally, our kids would eat the same olive oil poached salmon and Umbrian lentil salad that we crave. However, as parents, our ideals don’t usually reflect reality! Therefore, every week, I’ll include at least one “Kid-Friendly” menu item and one simply prepared vegetable side dish.
Will the food be fully cooked?
For the most part, yes, all food will be ready to be reheated and served. Certain dishes, however, may arrive with its parts (i.e., shrimp and a sauce) in separate containers with specific reheating instructions so as to preserve the dish’s quality while others, specifically, handmade pasta or ravioli, may be frozen and require a quick boil.
How does it work?
Every Friday morning, I will email (and for Facebook users, post, on a dedicated group page) the menu for the following week. After making your selections for either Tues, Wed or Thurs or any and all of those days, email your order to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than MONDAY at 10 AM (but preferably before). I will then send you a PayPal or Google Wallet invoice (your choice). Receipt of payment will serve as confirmation of your order.
Is there a minimum order?
No, there is no minimum order amount! However, all daily orders under $40 incur a delivery fee of $5.00.
Is there a limit to the number of orders that you’ll accept?
Yes, it’s first-come, first-serve. For the moment, I’m a one-woman operation: I create the menus; I handle the orders and invoicing; I carefully select and shop for all of the ingredients; and I cook all of the food. Therefore, in good conscience, I can only accept as many orders as I can handle and still maintain a high quality of cooking and service. So please, don’t wait until Monday morning to order!
When and how will my dinner be delivered?
Your dinner will be delivered in a sealed, insulated bag containing ice packs to your doorstep (or porch, backyard, etc.) no later than 5:30 pm. You don’t have to be home to receive the delivery. I ask that you recycle the bag and packs and leave them at your front door on the day of your next delivery.
How do I pay?
What about food allergies and intolerances?
I will label all menu items as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free or containing nuts. Having said that, all meals will be cooked in a kitchen that uses just about everything -tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, gluten, eggs, dairy, shellfish, etc. – and therefore, there is ALWAYS a risk of cross-contamination even when an item is labeled as not containing a certain ingredient. I ask that you exercise your own best judgment when ordering.
Are there any extra costs or fees?
For the moment, there are no additional delivery (except for daily orders under $40), packaging or other fees or gratuities. However, that is subject to change depending the on client and operating needs.
